So this happened at my old job at a retail store. I was a floor supervisor, nothing fancy, but I helped with scheduling, trained new people, and made sure things didn’t fall apart on busy days.

We had this new assistant manager, Jake. Fresh outta college, never worked retail in his life. But he walked in acting like he knew everything, trying to fix stuff that wasn’t broken.

One day, he decides to change how we stock the shelves ,said we were too slow and needed to follow his more efficient system. Mind you, his system made zero sense. It went against everything corporate trained us to do.

I tried to explain, Hey, if we do it your way, it’s gonna take longer and mess up inventory counts. But Jake cuts me off like, Just do it how I said. Follow the system. I’m the manager now.

Alright, bet. So I told the team, You all heard the man. Do it exactly like he said.

We followed his method to the letter. It took twice as long, shelves were a mess, and a regional manager who happened to visit that day pulled Jake aside and chewed him out for the disaster.

Jake tried to blame us. I just smiled and said, We were following his new system. Word for word.”

After that, Jake suddenly became a lot more interested in hearing feedback.
