“A survey of a representative sample of more than 2,000 adults found that 43 per cent of 18 to 34-year-olds and 32 per cent of 35 to 54-year-olds have given up drinking entirely while more than half of both age groups say that they have reduced their consumption.

Alcohol sales dropped by nearly 10 per cent in volume between 2019 and 2023, according to Mintel, the market research firm. Meanwhile, the latest figures from HM Revenue & Customs show that revenue from alcohol duty is on track to fall 5 per cent this year, although higher rates of duty on wine could also be a factor driving down the tax take.”
