I was out late last night and I had a hankering for a doner kebab (or gyro or shawarma – I’m not picky). But I don’t know where to find one in the District after 9 PM.
Requirements:
- Take-out. Doesn’t have to be only take-out, but I should be able to walk in, order at a counter, and be outta there with my kebab or shawarma in hand in under 10 minutes.
- $ or $$, not $$$. There are plenty of upscale restaurants in DC that serve great Mediterranean food, but I’m not paying $25 for shawarma at quarter past midnight.
- Open past 9 PM! Like, the Greek Deli on 19th NW is fantastic Greek food (and huge portions), but they close at 2 PM or something. And don’t have meat on a spit! Bonus points if they’re open beyond midnight.
The only place I’m aware of that fits the bill is George’s in Georgetown . . . but last night I was on the other side of town and parking on a Saturday night in Georgetown either isn’t going to happen or will cost 3x as much as the meal.
EDIT: Also maybe Zorba’s in Dupont. Forgot about them until just now.
