# | Team | Δ | Comment | Record | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Detroit Tigers | Tigers | +1 | The victory Sunday over Cleveland highlights how even though the Tigers aren’t neccessarily the fastest team, they are a team of elite baserunners. Down to the last strike in a 1-0 game, Zach McKinstry was able to get a phenomenal break to score on a wild pitch that barely squirted behind Bo Naylor. After tying it up, the bats exploded in the 10th for a 7-2 win and a 13.5 game cushion in the ALC. This week: 3 vs. TBR, 3 vs. SEA. | 57-34 |
| Los Angeles Dodgers | Dodgers | -1 | I won’t pretend to understand why Teó was chosen to be an all star but Andy Pages wasn’t. Regardless I’m still happy for the dodgers who did make it in. Kershaw gets his 11th all star nod after getting his 3000th K which is just plain cool to see. The Dodgers sat out a series against the Astros in prep for the all star game but still hold the leagues second best record. This team should look a lot better once all the pitchers come back after the break but for now I’ll just keep enjoying this team | 56-35 |
| Houston Astros | Astros | 0 | Call an ambulance, but not for us. What a damn good week we had, capped off by a sweep of the Dodgers. We continue to persevere through injuries and our annually projected demise, rolling over everyone in the process. :) GO STROS! | 55-35 |
| Chicago Cubs | Cubs | +1 | The Cubs put their June swoon behind them, with a 5-1 week lseeing them extend their NL Central lead back up to 4 games. A meltdown from the usually-reliable Brad Keller was the only thing between the Cubs and back-to-back sweeps of the Guardians and Cardinals. The offense roared back into life, culminating in a franchise record 8 home runs on July 4th. Michael Busch had 3 of them, and he has been such a revelation recently that Craig Counsell eveb scrapped his platoon and let Busch hit Lefties. The 1B was the most notable Cub snubbed for the all star game, but Matthew Boyd’s excellent season was rewarded as he was selected to his first. The Cubs will resume interleague play with series against the Twins and Yankees this week | 54-36 |
| Philadelphia Phillies | Phillies | +1 | The Phillies had a great week, winning two of three from both the Padres and the Reds. The pitching staff continues to dazzle, although Jesus Luzardo struggled again and Mick Abel got demoted after a rough outing. Zack Wheeler is having one of the greatest seasons in Phillies history and is rocketing his way up the rankings for best Phillies pitchers ever. He has a 0.32 ERA and 0.714 WHIP in his last four starts with 38 strikeouts in 28 innings. His season WHIP is down to an incredible 0.845 and his 196 ERA+ would be the second highest in Phillies history, behind only Pete Alexander’s 1915 season. While we’re only halfway through the season, he’s shown no signs of letting up thus far. The Phillies close out the first half with a west coast road trip against the Giants and the Padres. | 53-37 |
| Toronto Blue Jays | Blue Jays | +7 | Currently riding our highest high of the season, eight in a row, and sitting with a comfortable lead in the division after DAAAAAAAAAAAAA sweep of the Yankees, followed by a sweep of the Angels. This team might not be Michael Kay approved, but they’re really something special, especially since we’re not really close to being fully healthy yet. Two remaining series against the White Sox and the A’s give us a chance to add a few more wins before the All-Star break. | 52-38 |
| New York Mets | Mets | +1 | Are the Mets back? They just won series against the Brewers and Yankees. A child got to hit the Bronx Giraffe with a baseball bat. Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea should be back before the All Star break. Things might be good again? | 52-39 |
| Milwaukee Brewers | Brewers | -1 | I’m just happy that Woodruff is back :) | 50-40 |
| New York Yankees | Yankees | -5 | I finally pulled a Paul Goldschmidt Yankee card and STOPPED pulling Juan Soto Yankee cards, so that part of my Yankee fandom life is going pretty good. | 49-41 |
| Tampa Bay Rays | Rays | -1 | In a week of down-to-the-wire 1 run and extra inning affairs, I’m proud that the Rays were able to preserve their Pythagorean theorem. It’s actually a real compliment to them, and they have even managed to catch the Yankees in the division standings by Cartesian record. Congrats to Jonathan Aranda and Brandon Lowe (pronounced Lowe) for making the all-star team! | 49-41 |
| San Diego Padres | Padres | 0 | Jason Adam is one of three Padres selected to the All-Star game, it’s going to be his first appearance in 8 seasons. I think Pivetta is the Padres major snub. 9-2 record (yes I know win/loss doesn’t really matter for pitchers), 3.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP in 97 innings pitched so far. I’m looking forwards to seeing Yu on the mound for the first time this season tomorrow! | 48-41 |
| San Francisco Giants | Giants | 0 | Annnnd the Giants might be good again. A 4-2 week, taking a series against the D’Backs and the Sacramento A’s, and the return of MATT CHAPMAN. Fans now have the pleasure of seeing a lineup that is quite deep when healthy. Adames may have woken up from his nap. The pitching is still fantastic. I feel like every week a different reliever goes on the IL. Oh, and just for fun, Bryce Eldridge is out for 3-4 weeks so his MLB debut will likely not amount to much this year. Congrats to Ray, Webb, and Rodriguez for making the All-Star Team. No numbers breakdown this week because I’m still on vacation and that doesn’t sound like very much fun. Time for a tough homesgtand this week: vs PHI and vs LAD. | 49-42 |
| Seattle Mariners | Mariners | +1 | Not exactly how we drew it up, but 5-2 for the week will do. Solid starting pitching and a ton of home runs from Randy was pretty much it, but was also all that was needed. Up next: 3 @ Short Porch opportunities for Cal, 3 @ Beisbolcats | 48-42 |
| St. Louis Cardinals | Cardinals | -4 | The Cardinals didn’t have a great week. They got swept by the Pirates and lost a series to the Cubs complete with finale on Sunday Night Baseball where they got absolutely stomped. The Cardinals have a favorable schedule this week with a 6 game homestand against the Nats and Braves, but answers need to be found for the clear issues in the rotation. | 48-43 |
| Boston Red Sox | Red Sox | +3 | Hey, an unexpected good week! This team has had trouble playing down to their competitions level, so a strong sweep of the Nationals to cap off a 5-1 week is always good to see. Trevor Story is in his “blistering hot” swing after a month of being unbearably awful, and Rafaela’s power that has been hiding in statcast metrics is finally reaching his statline. Beating up on bad teams is a good sign, but I’m not letting myself get hopeful until we can prove in our upcoming series against the Rays, Cubs, Phillies and Dodgers. | 46-45 |
| Cincinnati Reds | Reds | -1 | Cincinnati Reds. The official team of inviting your friends out to have lunch only for all of them to insist to the waiter they’re not hungry so they just order an appetizer and that’s it. You thought you knew them, there’s no reason for them to have accepted the invite if they didn’t want to eat, and now you’re stuck eating a plate of Salmon while they scroll Tik Tok on their phones. That’s the Reds. They’re a team that shows up, sits down, makes it seem like they’re ready to be part of something, and then when the menu comes, they disappear. They’ll give you just enough to make you think they’re engaged, they’ll have occasional great pitching, some exciting prospect call ups, Elly is still there, but mostly it’s just constant underachieving and flirting with .500 to the point of exasperation. The potential’s there. The appetite just isn’t. You’re left wondering if they even want to be here in the first place? | 46-44 |
