Pick any car, choose any track.
Enter the following custom race settings once (will need to re-create when racing against Sophy but it doesn’t take long), then save them. There are separate custom race setting save sheets for both regular AI and Sophy.
Then load the settings, they can be reused for any track, adjust the laps and time of day to your liking, set weather to random if you want, and boom.
Weather in these settings is recommended to be random for the variety, but of course it’s all player choice.
These settings in my opinion make for good racing and it’s quick to set up as well.
Start Type:
- Grid Start (or 15m Rolling Start is recommended for Sophy)
Boost:
- Weak (heavily recommended to avoid significant AI slowdown when they are far ahead, and Weak boost speeds them up a bit in general)
Rival Cars Selection:
- Random
Rival Cars Difficulty:
- Player Choice (Default is Intermediate)
Slipstream Strength:
- Player Choice (Default is Weak)
Weather Selection Method:
- Custom Weather -> All Slots Random
- Weather must be adjusted to this setting each time the custom race settings are loaded, as it defaults to Preset Weather upon loading saved race settings
- If set to random, and you’re driving a racing car or a car that comes equipped with racing tyres, make sure to buy intermediate and heavy wet tyres from the tuning shop or race shop so that you aren’t in a pickle if it starts to rain!
Variable Time Speed Rate:
- Player Choice (6x recommended for 3 lap races, and for 5 lap races with fast cars)
All Other Settings (except Laps/Time of Day):
- Default or Player Choice
Something to note to make sure regular AI races are as competitive as possible, the following isn’t needed for Sophy:
Against regular AI, after loading into a custom race pre-race menu, purchase a power restrictor from the Race Shop.
In the car settings menu, detune to 96%, then start the race.
Before changing custom race settings from the pre-race menu, or loading into the next race, increase to 100%, then afterwards, detune while in the pre-race menu.
You can speed this up by creating and flipping between car setting sheets, but it doesn’t take long to adjust it on the one setting sheet.
Race setup takes a maximum of two minutes from picking a car if it’s in your garage, and getting into the race. Under a minute for Sophy events if the car is already in your garage.

One other thing, if you want to do custom grids via the Select from Garage option, the AI (regular and Sophy) will only ever use the tyre compound that the car came with or Racing: Hard if applied, no matter what you have equipped on the car that you have assigned to the AI.
Also, if the car has racing tyres by default, the AI will automatically start/pit for intermediates or wets depending on the conditions even if you haven’t bought them, so no need to buy those for cars you’re assigning to the AI if you haven’t bought them already for that car.
