Normally I wouldn’t do this but with the July 1st ruling in effect I feel I don’t have a choice. I’m a homeless service connected veteran who’s been here in Boise since April of 2024. I’ve been staying at interfaith sanctuary from April of last year until June of this year. I’ve been showing up every day at 4:20pm, waiting to until 4:30-4:45 to be entered on the wait list to stay for the night. I’ve had no issues getting a bed until recently. For the last month or so interfaith has been full every night and I’ve been forced to find other places to sleep. River of life isn’t my preferred shelter as they have some fairly homophobic ideologies and lack proper storage for my things (a 30lb backpack with my essentials and a huge 19" laptop that can’t fit in a locker) but even River of Life is full. I’ve received 4 warning tickets about setting up my tent on the Greenbelt and just received my 1st ticket tonight. I was told by the police officers that river of life has space available now but I take sleep aid OTC medication to help me sleep and I decided not to bike over there for my safety. I’m just at a lost as to what I should do. I start my new job(I finally got a job offer after applying almost every day since I came here) and I just wish either shelter would have space available at the times I was told to show up instead of at midnight when I’m trying to sleep. That’s according to the police at least. They could just be making that up. I don’t think it’s a good idea to bike over there when I’m this drowsy to confirm it. I’m not looking for hand outs I just want people here to know what I’m going through and what this bill is doing to my already difficult life. On a side note I was denied a HUD-VASH voucher after being in the program for a year waiting for a voucher to become available. I was told the reason for that is because I have a previous eviction. That was in February of this year. I was given 30 days to pay off the eviction and since I wasn’t able to pay it off in time I was removed from the program.
