worked as a front desk at a medium size company. Id been here for 2 yrs now and aside from answering phone calls. I quietly fixed tech issues, helped schedule meetings proofread reports whatever needed doing (like I was doing a more than my job description because I love the people here).

One day our (ex)manager (let’s called him Derek, were not close bec he’s too highly of himself) overheard me helping someone format a document n said, Why r u doing that? U r just the receptionst. Stay in ur lane.

So I did.

The rest of the week I politely declined everything that wasnt listed in my original job description haha lol (thats my role, no more, no less)

didn’t reset wifi router

didnt refill the office printer paper

didn’t track package or help schedule meetings

let callers ring endlessly while I was away from the desk (y? it didnt even listed as part of my job description haha lol)

chaos ensued. Derek was the first to complain, My response? “I’m just the receptionist” (i let him take his own medicine)

Then the CEO ended up calling me into his office… to promote me to Office Coordinator lol. it happened. Thanks to him. simple matters but has a big effect
