I picked up the new REI Commuter 22 backpack today. I stuffed it full of old bubble wrap and it measured 16.5”x11”x8” (42x28x20cm) which nails the Ryanair sizer dimensions.
It’s very feature rich compared to something like the Cabin Zero Classic 28 and even the Osprey Daylite 26+6
It is light (25 oz), has a well ventilated back panel, the water bottle pocket can fit a one liter Nalgene and the front opening allows full access to the interior. I removed the waist belt. The lightly padded laptop sleeve is 10” wide maximum and 12” deep to the top of the sleeve with 3” plus over the top. The bottom of the sleeve is 1” above the bottom of the pack. Harness comfort is good with 2-5/8” wide straps and a sternum strap with a whistle buckle on rails and water hose clip. There is a 1” waist belt mounted on webbing loops and easily removed.
I was able to fit the Osprey Ultralight Garment Folder, an Eagle Creek small Compression cube and two Osprey Liquids bag. I have a three night air/road trip to Montana coming up and I’ll give a full Packing list and photos then.

- Eagle Creek small compression cube with 2x polos, briefs and socks
