I, like many of you, come from a predominantly conservative household. At just about every single family event, it’s guaranteed to have at LEAST one roundtable discussion about recent politics, and this time we talked about Alligator Auschwitz and the ICE raids.
To no one’s surprise, my conservative family brought up the “rule of law” concept from the BoM and expressed how they wished people would simply ‘come in the right way’.
These are the same people who speed on the highway every chance they get. Jaywalk whenever. Park illegally. Sneak food and drinks into events where they’re not allowed. Hide asset worth from the IRS. Pay their employees under the table (supposedly for tax reasons). Take illegal substances. Grow illegal plants (nothing cool like weed, mind you, they just get plants from out of state that’s illegal where we live and bring them back). Cut lines when they feel they’re too long. Lie on their homeschool reports for their kids. Etc. Etc.
To quote the late and great Norm Macdonald, “The worst part is the hypocrisy”
Also, because this annoys me to no end, I will add that these very same people vacation in the countries they seemingly detest and have even stolen in these countries (one person stole a liter of mexican vanilla, another stole a silver ring from a street vendor). They also go to these places and haggle their vendors down for no other reason than to proudly say “We even haggled!” Good for you, Aunt Fake Name, you haggled a single mother down to a single dollar for two cups of chopped up mango. Hope you feel good about it.
It’s… it’s exhausting.
