Newcastle-born striker Archie Goodwin appears set for a rich overseas move.
The Newcastle Herald understands the 20-year-old has travelled to the United States and will join Charlotte FC.
Goodwin’s current club Adelaide have been in negotiations with the Major League Soccer club.
After Adelaide initially rejected a six-figure transfer fee, it is understood Charlotte have come back with a $2 million offer for the A-League young gun.
The 20-year-old former Newcastle Jet and Cooks Hill United Football Club junior is coming off a career-best year.
Goodwin came through the Jets academy from under nines and became the A-League club’s youngest debutant when deployed off the bench as a 16-year-old against Melbourne Victory in February, 2021.
The Novocastrian was plagued by injuries early in his career but had a break-out campaign after joining Adelaide last season.
He scored 13 goals in 26 appearances to finish the season as the A-League Golden Boot winner, an accolade Goodwin shared with Sydney striker Adrian Segecic.
