Hi Guys,

Backstory:

Currently, my family “server” is just a relatively old Windows PC with no screen that I just teamviewer into for sonarr, radarr, prowlarr and Plex. Files are downloaded with qbittorent to an external 2TB hard drive, and sonarr and radarr do their thing and copy these files to their final resting place on the internal hard drives. Once a week or so, I power-down this “server” and take the external hard drive to my parents house, where files are copied to their equivalent “server”. The hard drive is then wiped and bought back home.

I have been building PC’s for 20 years, but have never made a fit-for-purpose server. I haven’t used UNRAID, but am sold on it, if only for the lack of having to run windows and the associated bloat, as well as the efficient way to control it. I do not need to have my files in RAID. RAID 0 is fine (All family photos etc are cloud backups and I wouldn’t lose sleep over losing some movies and TV shows I could re-download if I wanted to)

I have relatively powerful server components on the way

Plex and downloading are my only use case here.

The Question:

Taking into account I only need RAID 0, and that I will have a cache M2 drive also installed.

Is it possible to use UNRAID and still have the system that I have now. To:

  1. Have an external USB HDD be default download directory of qbittorent.
  2. Have radarr and sonarr copy these files from the external to the internal drives.

Thanks in advance, no matter the outcome.
