There any decent engineers here who can explain some, frankly, idiotic design choices?

  • Standing handles by doors

The handles are so close to the door that the standee is very likely to lean against the door. We’ve probably all heard of that lad who fell out of a door on to the track, and seen that photo in the chronicle of the disability scooter that launched out the metro through a set of closed doors. We’ve probably all done it, but leaning on the doors is a stupid thing to do. Why encourage it with a standing position that directs a standee to face in such a direction?

  • Door levers

The castors that the door sill rides on are completely exposed, as are the castor sills. Why on earth is this the case? They are going to get kicked, they will be filthy in a couple of years, and failure rates are going to be high. Why not the sensible option of an internal sill with a kick plate?

  • Headroom

Is it just me, or are the new trains a bit tighter than the old ones? I smacked my head on stepping out. Why? Are there extra electronics in the roof space?

  • Central running light

Why is this placed in such a position as to render the destination board invisible from any further than five feet? And why is it down at crotch height where it can be easily blocked from view?

On a good note, the suspension is lovely.
