I’m asking for a friend. He and his wife just had their baby a few months ago, and one day his wife basically all of a sudden want to “disown” my friend’s parents because she said they aren’t “fitting enough” to be grandparents. To make matters worse, she told him that he’s not allowed to make contact with them or else she’ll divorce him, leave and take the baby away from him.

Friend is really upset about this and obviously that also upsets his parents because they wouldn’t see each other. He loves them but he also loves his wife and kid and he’s conflicted. I know his parents really well, having grown up with them and they’re the nicest folks around.

I do not understand how this could’ve happened and we are hoping this is just one of those severe phases of postpartum that’ll pass. Or is that kind of behavior even possible with postpartum?
