I recently saw a tik tok of a back woman who was hit in the face with a brick for not giving a man her number. And what she said was really the worst part was how many men just stood around and watched and did nothing. And this isn’t the first time I’ve seen stories like this. I remember not that long ago I saw a new story of an Indian woman who was killed with a brick as people just walked past.
And then I see so many men (obviously not all) denying that this happens. The answer to why is misogyny but it’s still so saddening to see.
Then so many men wonder why women feel the way they do when the violence and oppression done at our expense is constantly denied and ignored. And seeing stuff like this doesn’t make me hate men. I hate the systems that have allowed this to happen and the people who perpetuate it. I’m saddened by the men who can’t understand and empathize with us. Because I know there are so many men who can and do. And I like to think that there are a lot of men out there who would do something, but I feel like I’m being proven wrong. Maybe it’s a combination of misogyny and the bystander effect. Because so many people have no issue just ignoring awful situations like this .
