I am considering getting the Steam Deck for my mother for Christmas. She (55F) has become quite the gamer in the last 5 years- 2020’s lockdown sparked her interest- and we are very proud of her gaming accomplishments. The Steam Deck and Switch 2 are on her list. She really wants to play BG3, nancy drew, AC, Witcher 3, the Mafia series etc, and not every title she wants to play is playable on the switch.
The problem is, she is partially blind due to macular degeneration, and she has to play her games on a big TV screen. Small text/ itmes are an issue (problematic for games like BG3).
I have tried researching how some of these games perform on the console while docked and I am still just as confised as ever. Some people said the visuals were bad.
So, what is the consensus? What additional purchases are needed for this to be playable for her? She wants the deck because it can connect to her steam library. I have siggested a PS4 but she seems really into the Steam Deck.
TLDR: Mother is visually impaired but wants to play the steam deck docked into a large TV. Will the games she wants to play (BG3, Witcher 3, Mafia, TES) perform well enough while docked?
Thank you!
Update/ edit: Thank you for the responses! You guys are awsome!! I appreciate the advice. The consensus seems pretty clear that I should get a PS4. I will give the post more time and see if any other oppinions rise, but this might be the best option for her.
