The latest to jump into the race is Kevin O’Keefe, the founder and president of the St. Vartan Park Conservancy.

Already in the race […] are Josh Arnon, a self-described “Jewish Democratic Socialist,” and Gabriel Turzon, a treasurer of Eleanor Roosevelt Independent Democrats and, since 2017, a member of Community Board 6.

[The three candidates] have all tossed their hats into the ring as Democrats seeking to represent Assembly District 74 on the East Side. Of course, it is all dependent on incumbent Harvey Epstein vacating if he wins the November election for a City Council seat.

Looks like O’Keefe and Arnon are the only two with active websites. Both have active socials as well and seem to be in very different lanes.

Arnon is a democratic socialist while O’Keefe posted a reel this week of Marty Dolan speaking at his campaign launch. Dolan unsuccessfully challenged AOC in the 2024 Dem primary and regularly posts attacks of her, Zohran Mamdani and Jumaane Williams as part of his campaign for public advocate (he placed third in the June Dem primary and is now running on a different ballot line). At O’Keefe’s launch, Dolan also referenced the “phenomenal” New York Dem party chair Jay Jacobs, who offered his resignation this week to Kathy Hochul due to her endorsement of Mamdani.

Should be an interesting race as special elections are really anyone’s game and it will likely take place in the couple months following the mayoral election.
