I’ve been thinking: in all these years, why hasn’t Tekken received a proper remaster or collection?
The problem, as we know, is Harada’s mindset. He doesn’t believe that remasters or collections of the older 3D fighting games (like Tekken 3 or Tekken 5) would be as popular as 2D fighters, arguing that older polygonal 3D graphics age poorly for modern audiences.
But this argument falls flat when you look at Bandai Namco’s own actions! The company has already greenlit remasters for niche, lesser-known games like Baten Kaitos and the Klonoa Phantasy Series.
So, why not invest in one of their most famous and foundational franchises, such as Tekken 5?
I’m certain a true remaster or collection for PC/consoles is the dream of many long-time fans. Why is this so difficult? Am I the only one who thinks his reasoning is wrong? A high-definition collection on recent platforms would make a huge number of fans happy, and it surely wouldn’t hurt their wallets.
(I just hope I’m alive to see it happen, if it ever does.)
