Just got back from a screening of The Nun II and the entire mood was completely destroyed because some parents thought it would be fine to bring their 5–6 year olds.
The kids were crying, asking loud questions, and even laughing during tense scenes. Horror movies depend so much on silence, darkness, and immersion — when you’ve got a toddler shouting “what’s happening?” during a jump scare, the tension evaporates instantly.
I get that parents want to see movies too, but bringing little kids into a horror screening doesn’t just upset the children — it ruins the whole experience for everyone else who came for the atmosphere. Honestly, theaters should have age restrictions for certain films, even if the parents are present.
If you want to watch a horror movie, that’s great. But please, get a babysitter and don’t sabotage the very thing that makes horror in theaters special: the shared, eerie silence right before the scare.
