PHILADELPHIA (October 3, 2025) – SEPTA is making capital improvements to City Hall Station along the Broad Street Line [B] in preparation for the influx of visitors expected at the major events in Philadelphia next year.

Highlights of this improvement project include:

“City Hall and 15th Street Stations provide a critical connection and serve as the heart of our system,” said SEPTA General Manager Scott A. Sauer. “SEPTA will play a vital role in ensuring the success of these large-scale events by providing a safe, clean, and reliable transit experience. Improvements to this complex will make it easier to use for everyone and reduce the ongoing maintenance costs.”

  • Relocation of the fare lines on the mezzanine level, as well as the installation of new full-height fare gates to reduce fare evasion, increase accessibility, and enhance rider safety
  • Platform resurfacing, flooring replacement, lighting improvements, painting, and railing rehabilitation
  • Installation of new Metro wayfinding signage to help riders navigate the station

Access to the mezzanine will be restricted during construction through mid-November.

Other projects planned ahead of the 2026 events include:

  • HVAC and roof work at Oregon and NRG Stations
  • Headhouse improvements at 2nd Street Station
  • Painting at Fern Rock Transit Center
  • Lighting improvements at Jefferson Station
  • Water leak mitigation at various locations
