Long term Dex power user here (8+ hours per day).
Upgraded to One UI 8 yesterday. Definitely now wish I had held off. I expected some niceties, also expected some issues, both of which are there. But the following are the big issues I have immediately faced, for those in my position who are considering whether to update.
Most of these are related to using Dex with a keyboard.
- Pressing “Super” to open the app draw does not work, unless you use One UI Home as your phone’s launcher. I believe it is the same for alt+tab. I’m not willing to change from my launcher (Niagara), so I’m left to use the mouse or finder (Super + f).
- Only one app can be in full screen / immersive mode. You can’t put two apps into full screen, and then switch between them.
- There is no keyboard shortcut (that I’m aware of) to put an app into full screen / immersive mode.
- Some apps can now take full control of the keyboard (especially remote desktop apps), meaning Dex keyboard shortcuts no longer work once the app is active, meaning the only way to switch out is using the mouse.
- The Super + n shortcuts to switch apps based on the toolbar position is gone.
I had a very productive workflow which has now been incredibly disrupted, with no choice to go back.
I understand how we got here, and otherwise love Dex.
