A few years ago I was lucky enough to find myself in the homeland at a time it needed the help of all of its sons and daughters. After providing various forms of aid during the 2020 war I founded a nonprofit called “lorik Humanitarian Fund”. The work was in Artsakh so there we went, me and a girl named Marine that I had met just one day before the 2020 war began. Martuni became our home, where we began by visiting the families of our fallen soldiers and contributing to the rebuilding efforts. Between 2020 and 2023 Lorik fund successfully raised funds and executed projects in various spheres, always keeping a hand on approach and focusing on the Martuni region. Everything from passing out chickens and building greenhouses, to sponsoring wrestling and Armenian dance groups. Along with 150,000 other Armenians I, my wife, my 2 year old daughter, and my 5 days old baby were forcibly displaced from Artsakh.
Although we had been through much, it was nothing compared to the families that lost their loved ones, and could no longer lay flowers at the graves of their ancestors. On October 4th Lorik Fund launched a project to help provide permanent housing to the forcibly displaced from Artsakh. Less than a month after the attacks by azerbaijan and ethnic cleansing of Artsakh we had our first beneficiary family move into their new home. To date we have 13 families that have received a home. The aim is to keep families from Artsakh close to each other, preserve the heritage and fighting spirit, maintain a support system for one another, and towards that end we are happy to say that 5 of our 13 families are in the same village. We have a few more that are in villages nearby and we have another 5 families of fallen Heroes whom we have accommodated in a region of their choice.
I couldn’t do this alone and I didnt do this with the help of any millionaires, its been tough and the Armenian government never misses a chance to create more obstacles, but its the least I can do.
Although I will continue this project, I am increasing my focus on the preservation of the culture, history, language, and customs. We have began a massive archival project, one that we didnt get a chance to do for the survivors of the Armenian Genocide in 1915, and sadly because we didnt we lost a wealth of knowledge. We are documenting the stories of every member of the village, their personal story, their family tree, the villages history, traditions, songs, dances, digitizing photos and documents, place names that cant be found on a map, etc. etc.
Artsakhtsis are a not a people that like to talk about themselves, especially not in front of a camera. Luckily I am a friends, one that came and lived with them and did not run away when times got rough. Im blessed to say that the project has kicked into gear and our first village with about 50 families is almost fully complete.
I dont want to share all the details because once the interface is built its going to be amazing but the most important task right now is gathering all this info before people leave the country, or sadly, die and take that wealth of knowledge with them.
We do a lot of little projects, some big ones, if you think were doing something worthwhile you can goto our site, sign up to the email list, maybe become a monthly donor for a humble amount, and since I dont spend money on an office and a SMM expert, its hard for me to maintain a personal and nonprofit profile across 200 different platforms you can follow my personal page for the most up to date information.
I appreciate everyone the has helped, in any way shape or form. Thanks for keeping Artsakh on the agenda.
