I’m reading the wiki article on MLs, and there’s so much internal contradictions.
- On one hand, “malt liquor is a type of mass market beer with high alcohol content (typically above 5%),” but according to this governmental website, the average beer is 5% ABV. There are many beers above 5% ABV, but they’re not referred to as “malt liquors.” Why is this? The stigma?
- Early in the article, it says “Malt liquor is a strong lager or ale in which sugar, corn or other adjuncts are added .” However, later on it states the opposite in that: “Malt liquor is a type of beer that after brewing results in a higher percentage of alcohol than lagers without additional sugars or adjuncts.” So are MLs with or without adjuncts?
- Can a ML have ABV < 5%?
