Hey, so I’ve suspected for a while that I may be neurodivergent. At first I was convinced it was adhd, but the more I learn about how autism presents in young women I feel more like that may be what is going on. I obviously am not a professional, so I don’t know for sure that this is what’s happening, but I know something is up. I’ve brought up adhd to a few doctors, but none of them have taken my concerns too seriously, so I’m a little nervous to bring up autism. Almost all of them ended up brushing off my concerns and diagnosing me with treatment-resistant depression and anxiety, and sending me on my way. When I first brought up that I thought I may have ADHD, I was told point blank by my practitioner that I “didn’t seem hyper”. Another practitioner told me that I did exhibit signs of adult ADHD, but that the symptoms overlapped with so many other things that it was impossible for her to say right then, which makes sense. She was leaning more towards bipolar, due to one specific time in my life where my symptoms seemed to overlap with a manic episode, but I’m not entirely convinced that it was mania, I’m not sure what that was. Anyways, I was just wondering what made you guys suspect you were autistic? What were some of your more subtle symptoms? My symptoms could overlap with so many other things so I’m just so confused.
