I’ll allow myself to post this just once because I’m excited for the release! Just one word of caution first:
This game has no online modes and I know this sucks for a fighting game in 2025.
The reason is simple: I wasn’t good enough to retrofit them in my old engine despite trying to. I learned how to implement GGPO but it was -alas!- too late. My engine was an absolutely terrifying non-deterministic mess. I then had the choice of either scrapping the game or releasing it without online multiplayer. I decided for the second and released it for free because of it - I would have felt bad otherwise.
I’m happy of what I’ve managed to achieve and of having been able to make a fun game that earned some EVO attention too, but I wish 2016 me (the person fully responsible for the engine’s shortcomings) were a bit smarter.
That said, I’m still proud to come to r/Fighter to say that…
Exploding Judo Federation is out on Steam!
Featuring a roster of 11 characters + 4 bosses and a built-in tournament mode with temporary auto-unlocks that removes all tournament-illegal characters and stages from the selection screen.
Alternate costumes, arcade endings and lore archive for the more casual crowd…
…including a giant mecha kaiju boss that plays a bit like an Elden Ring fight :D
And, for the more competitive crowd… what about the SF6-style frame data bar plus input record&replay?
Even if I can’t offer an online fighting game, I tried my best to offer the best offline experience I could. I know this community is more competitive and catered towards tournaments - and I understand the joy of fighting against other human players online. I wish I could have allowed you to do so in ExploJudo too. Maybe, 2026 me will manage to build an engine with rollback worth its salt.
Until then…
BOMB 1!
