Two nights ago, around 2am, my girlfriend and I were asleep in our loft bedroom when we both woke up at the exact same moment to a short, clear giggle — like a little girl. It sounded like it came from downstairs directly under us. No windows open, no TV, no neighbors with kids close enough to hear, nothing in the house that makes giggling sounds. We do not own any toys that laugh or giggle.

Three days before that, our 2-year-old stood at the stairs, looked at one specific spot, and angrily yelled:

“Don’t touch me ghost papa!”

The stairs creaked immediately after he said it — right in the spot he was staring at. He went back to normal right after.

What makes it weirder is that our 6-year-old, years ago, used to talk about a “ghost papa” frequently — but has not brought it up in a long time and has never mentioned it in front of the 2-year-old. So the younger one did not learn that phrase from him.

For extra context: my girlfriend is in the process of converting to Catholicism, while I’ve been struggling with faith a bit (on and off, still a believer, just figuring out some minor details). I’ve heard that spiritual upheaval in a house sometimes precedes activity.

Years ago we had one unexplained event (a door swung fully open on its own from fully closed but not latched while I was watching), but nothing consistent until these two recent incidents.

No events since then — just unsettled and curious. What do you think?

TL;DR

Our toddler yelled “don’t touch me ghost papa” at a specific spot on the stairs and the stairs creaked immediately. Three days later, my girlfriend and I were both woken up at 2am by a clear little girl’s giggle from downstairs. No toys or devices that make that sound. Our older kid used to talk about “ghost papa” years ago but never in front of the toddler.
