Ok bare with me and I apologize in advance if I begin to rant but I’m incredibly frustrated. I filed my taxes in February on H&R Block. My federal taxes had zero problems. My DC tax returns have yet to be returned to me. In May I received a notice for Identity and Return Verification. They needed copies of some things like my W-2 (which i already included in my initial filings but whatever), proof of address, copy of my ID. I sent that in. Mind you, I filed early in February but did not receive any communication from the DC Tax office until May.
They sent me another email saying that my W-2 wasn’t enough and needed a bank statement and 1099 form. I didn’t even know wtf a 1099 form is. Apparently its for contracted workers (which I am not). By the grace of God I got someone on the phone and I told them that I don’t have a 1099. She told me to resend them a copy of my bank statement that includes the dates of my W-2. Cool did that.
Now I just received a refund denial notice stating that the documents I sent them weren’t sufficient and I have to file an appeal at the DC Superior Court. Anyone deal with this before? Do I have to physically go to court for this?
