I am an international student in a new country. I live alone in a studio apartment. I am here for about four months now. I wear slippers in my apartment, which is a habit I bought from my home country. The building I live in was built on 1998, with renovations made in 2018. It was owned by a company from the start that rents out apartments to students. I didn’t have anyone coming over here yet, nobody else has my keys. The country I live in is among the safest in the world, with public trust being very high.
Now, what the problem is, I sometimes find my slippers in mysterious places when I wake up in the morning. And it happens to only one at a time, the other stays by the bed where I kept them before I went to sleep. The left one got misplaced once, the right one thrice. I found them under my workstation table twice, once under the curtain of a window by the workstation, and the other time by the place where I set a rack to dry my wet clothings.
I don’t walk on the floor, ever, without my slippers on. So it wouldn’t be the case that I left one on the places that I found them in the morning and brought one on hand or limped my way to bed. That’s not me, really. Also I have a sharp memory, so it’s unlikely that I am forgetting where I kept them and getting surprised finding them there later. I don’t have a pet, and I have throughly checked and found that there is no rodents. And hypothetically, if there were someone infiltrating, there are valuables lying around. Why would someone mess around with my slippers? Another thing is that, I don’t usually wake up at night to use the washroom or whatever and sleep again. Normally I wake up in the morning, so I don’t know when exactly the missing one goes missing.
I don’t think the apartment gives me an eerie vibe. And it’s not like I am afraid or something. I have experience of living alone and I do enjoy living on my own. I don’t have sleepwalking condition or anything like that. But all being said, I find the whole thing very, very strange and would really appreciate an explanation.
