Since Reversi has become such an important aspect of the story, I believe that the game can be used to give a rough breakdown of the One Piece timeline so far. Quick note - I have seen some theories on here expressing similar ideas so I apologize if I step on anyone’s toes, I just want to collect all these ideas I’ve seen/thought of in one post.
In the game of Reversi, you need two pieces of the same color on opposing ends in order to flip the pieces to your side. I believe that at the end of the void century, there was only one piece (gasp) left on the board–a white piece in the corner. We would know this as The One Piece. The piece being in the corner means that it cannot be taken by the black team.
I believe this piece being left could be what Imu considers to be Lili’s blunder, leaving a piece available in an unreachable place and failing to stop them (likely intentionally allowing them to). This piece has continued to sit in the corner of the board, unreachable by the black team (WG). The white team, unable to make a move, has had to sit and watch while black has slowly taken over the board.
When the Roger pirates reached Laugh Tale, they realized the state of the board and that a new white piece would not appear for another 20 years, leaving them in limbo until that time. They wait it out until a new white piece is able to be placed (Luffy). Once he appears, the game is officially back on.
Really I just think that, since this new white piece has appeared, Luffy is going to begin turning the board to his side using The One Piece that has sat dormant for so long in the corner of the world. No clue how but that’s part of the fun.
