Hi -
I’m somewhat new to the city and am looking for any resources or recourse for when you see somebody abusing their dog. I was walking my dog just now and I saw a loose dog running on Pima. A few cars didn’t seem to care to slow down or even move out of the way, which was disturbing in its own right. In any case this woman calls the dog from her house and it goes back home. All good. But as I’m walking by her house I began to hear the dog wailing and I see the woman hitting him over and over and over again. At this point, I’m across the street so I start clapping my hands and yelling “hey!” to get her to stop. She finally does, we exchange many words and I finally walked away. This person obviously shouldn’t own any pets. What does one do in this situation? I’ve never experienced this.
Update: Called Pima Animal Center at 520-724-5900 ext 4 They asked a series of questions: details on the situation, the extent of the abuse, how long etc. Also asked for the person’s address, in addition to my information (name and number and address). They are getting an officer to go over there and it’s up to them to determine what will be done. I’ll report back if I hear anything
