It was hands down the most extreme amount of pain I’ve ever felt, which just further proved to me that I’m absolutely not cut out for bearing children. It felt like being stabbed three times in the uterus, except I wasn’t allowed to fight back. I just had to grip the table, press my feet against the stirrups and pray I made it through with a functional form of birth control that will get me most of the way to menopause (I’m 36).
I asked why we don’t get any sort of numbing for this and she told me, “because we’re not wusses like men.” I countered with, “no ma’am, I am in fact a big wuss.” I tried to pay out of pocket for some sort of local anesthesia before the appointment, and was told it’s not possible. Something tells me that’s not accurate, but I wasn’t about to argue with the heavily pregnant gyno doing the procedure because she’s absolutely about to be in more pain than I was and it didn’t seem kind.
Not that my sweaty, shaking shout of “are you fsxking done yet?!” was very kind either. But “take a Tylenol” doesn’t seem like the kindest of options either.
No real point to this post, I just needed to tell someone that 1600mg of “borrowed” prescription ibuprofen got me home, barely, and a bunch of alcohol mostly tamed the rest of it… but dammit, it fucking hurt, and you’d think in 2023 we would have a way to deal with that by now.
Thanks for reading my ramble, I’m gonna have another beer, because I am, in fact, a big wuss. As the gynecologist said to me today: vote for people who advocate for women’s rights.
