Recently, I reconnected with a man via Hinge that I met through a previous career five years ago. At that time, I worked at a school that helped trade workers obtain their state contractor’s licenses so they could start their own business and become their own boss.

A few days ago, I matched with one of my former students (we’re both in our 30s).

He stated that business I helped him set-up now makes millions after he obtained his state license, like I had convinced him to do.

I was seriously so happy and proud of him. It was one of the main perks of the job; helping unlicensed contractors see their potential instead of working for pennies.

The conversation eventually started to die down, and out of curiosity, I asked why he matched with me.

Verbatim, he stated, “You’re so kind-hearted, and if you just went to the gym, you’d be hot AF. You know I’m right.”

My jaw dropped. This man, who I had helped set up to win, had the f-cking AUDACITY to disrespect me like that. I usually take screenshots, but I knew that would be a screenshot I’d read over and over again on the lowest of my low days.

I told him that he may go to the gym, but he doesn’t have a kind heart, and I immediately unmatched.

Like, wtf… I’m so tired of this shit. I do have a kind heart, yet I’m always treated like trash.
