Hi, I’m planning to build a home server for a backup of my photos and some miscellaneous files.

And I chose unRAID instead of Truenas since it looked easier.

I’m trying to run unRAID on my old Dell Inspiron which has i5-4590, 8GB DDR3. I think I would have to upgrade if I want to host media and run Plex on it, but it should be good for now.

I’m planning to buy 2 Manufacturer recertified Seagate Exo X16 14TB drives from Serverpartdeals.com. And use 1 for storage and 1 for parity.

Any suggestions before I start making purchases? Do they consume much electricity and make much noise as some on internet have described? Are there some factors I have to consider before building an unRAID server? Any help is much appreciated!
