Hello, I’m hoping I could get some advice on my situation if possible.
I’m Latvian citizen by descent, but I was moved to the UK at a very young age, and I’ve been here most of my life. I didn’t grow up speaking Latvian at all, in fact I was only ever taught a bit of Russian as that’s what my parents spoke. I’ve forgotten most of it.
Although learning English has been so important for my education and career in the UK, I feel so stupid for not learning Latvian after all this time, even though I don’t live there. I’m feeling increasingly disconnected to my roots, feeling even a bit silly owning a Latvian passport.
I have no interest to relearn Russian (for obvious reasons), but would love to start learning Latvian to be able to visit the beautiful country more and do the least I can as someone with this nationality. The question is… Where do I even start? Are lessons okay, or is it better to immerse myself in another way?
Any advice or tips would be much appreciated, thank you.
