After more than $100 million AUD to try to kill off and contain the varroa mite which infests European honeybees, Australia is abandoning the effort. More than 14 thousand bee hives were destroyed as part of the effort.it is expected that the mite infestation will likely destroy the majority of honey producing hives in the country. Globally, man made and natural/introduced threats are destroying bee populations.
